Bands should always record and listen to their rehearsals. This will help you to get a grip on your overall sound as a group. You CAN NOT hear what you are presenting to people while playing. You may have an idea in your head of how the music comes across but if you don’t listen to it, you don’t have a clue. Listening to your rehearsals helps you become tighter as a group and allows you to fine tune your act. There are many circumstances where the sound tech can not improve your overall sound. For example when two guitars are performing and one uses an awful lot of reverb in a large room while the other uses none, you will sound like you are in totally different places. This can be a little disturbing to a listener as it doesn’t give them a feeling of a cohesive unit. Listen to what you’re going to put out before you take it on the road.
